Thank you to all the bloggers who've written about SustainabiliTee, I truly appreciate it. Please show your own support by visiting their sites as well. Thank you.
"Tshirts are excellent. Caring about the environment is cool. Put those together and you have Emily at sustainabilitee.com. She’s a most excellent artist and environmental champion. Her shirts are clever and comfy and very very chic. Plus she also print her designs on thrift store tshirt! Funny thing is, my screenprinting comrade and I have been buying salvation army tees, turning them inside out and printing on them for a while, so I was thrilled to learn that someone as awesome and repectable as Emily is doing something along those lines. For instance:
It’s like putting together Bruce Lee’s grace and “The Monkey’s” Retro confusion and then mating that with the sofest, nicest, eco-friendliest tee. (edit: I was just told this shirt is an excellent way to pick up the ladies, I don’t get it, if you do, explain it to me in a comment) I dunno how much more smoke I can blow at this tee so go get it! buy the eco version and she’ll donate some cash to excellent causes.
In the mean time I’ll leave you with a couple of other niceitees (ba-dum-tish) from the website."
We’ve actually shown you the HelloMinor tee before a while back but
had to include it as it’s still one of our favourites, SustainabiliTee
are definitely worth checking out thanks to their simple styling and
ultra-ethical practices, one to make you feel good about yourself.
"Loving this Surface Tension Master tee from Green Sustainabilitees
- I was just sent one of their other tees and they are incredibly
comfy, and have a cute little green tee printed in the bottom back
corner."
We've mentioned ethical apparel peddlers American Apparel in the past, and the host of other creative collectives out there coming out witht-shirts slathered in eco-friendly slogans, but here's one with a different story. SustainabiliTee, aka The Green Tee, was developed by a 26 year old woman named Emily whoneeds some funds for her independent film. For a few years now, she's been directing a non-profit called StartMotions, an eco-consciousanimation studio. Last Fall, Emily began SustainabiliTee using nature inspired designs and the comfiest, greenest tee shirts around. SustainabiliTee is helping to save the world "one tee at a time". With fabric options ranging from "buttery-soft cotton" to bamboo and eco-heather, these feel good shirts will feel good on your body.
According to SustainabiliTee, "the action of a consumer buying one earth-friendly item reduces the amount of pesticides, chemicals, pollution and toxins put in our homes". Each shirt is adorned with the trademark mini-green tee on the back, while the front of each shirt displays an awesome eco-conscious slogan. A few of our favorites include: fake bacon is awesome, my osprey could whip your F-16's butt, and avoid styrofoam like the plague. Whether you're a fan of the slogans, love the eco-friendly materials, or simply want to help out Emily, place your order today.
I stumbled across SustainabiliTee this morning in my web travels and I’m really impressed by what I’ve seen so far. An eco-conscious t-shirt company, SustainabiliTee was started by Emily in an attempt to further fund “a super cool, extremely important independent film project.” No surprise since Emily also directs StartMotions, an equally green-minded animation studio.
SustainabiliTee’s prints are all ecologically cheeky (take a look if that makes you scratch your head and wonder) and they’re available in four different materials: AA Cotton, Eco-Heather, MW Cotton, and Bamboo. Yes, you can now wear a Bamboo t-shirt. They’ve also got a section of Thrift Prints for those who are both eco and economically minded.
Have a look. Say hello to SustainabiliTee on MySpace or Friendster (what, no Facebook Emily?). Spread the word. I’m all for initiatives that are design-savvy and eco-conscious.
Bis
alle Wortspiele mit “tee” und “-ty” vergeben sind, werden wir wohl noch
so manchen Shop zu Gesicht bekommen. Nachhaltigkeit also.
verschiedenen Blanko-Shirts wählen, ob American Apparel, Eco-Heather
oder Bambusfasern (bei manchen zumindest). Das ergibt eine weite
Farbpalette.
Yo ho ho and a bottle of organic blueberry juice! My name is Victoria Everman and you will be seeing a bit more of me here on Alternative Consumer in the coming months. AC was nice enough to ask me to be a Guest Blogger and I just couldn’t say no. Fashion, crafts, eco-irony, media, beauty … these are just some of the green subjects I’ll be chatting about. Once I find a swank sustainable product or oddity, I’ll be bringing it to you right here on Alternative Consumer.
With all the hype out of the way, let’s get on with the post! Based in the funk-tastic city of Providence, Rhode Island, SustainabiliTee was started just last year with only $1,000. On both new and vintage t-shirts, Emily and Daniel (founders and lovers) screenprint nature-inspired designs, each with its own unique back story.
New shirts range in price from $23 to $32 and vintage tops range from $8 to $23, all of which are available directly from their website.
"...Keep an eye peeled for Emily Dodge's company,
SustainabiliTee, who's motto is "Thread Lightly". As a long-standing
environmentalist (sponsoring her first acre of rainforest by selling
peanut brittle at the ripe young age of seven), Emily has developed
SustainabiliTee as an alternative t-shirt company that subtlety
promotes environmental awareness. Emily offers items that are
sweatshop-free, made of organic cotton and some shirts recycled
straight from the local thrift store. All are printed with non-toxic
inks. The shirts bear sweet images such as a flock of geese with the
words "duck, duck goose" inspired by the Canadian geese found by New
Bedford's own hurricane barrier. An animator by trade, her hip, cozy
t-shirts are the funding behind her non-profit animation company
StartMotions which focuses on eco-educational animations made from
trash, organic, and reused materials. Before she finds the bio-diesel
motor home of her dreams and commences her travels across the country
promoting her earth-friendly wares, find her at the NB Open Market on
December 8th."
